What I’m Pondering – Pushing Forward

Remember the last time you found yourself in a seemingly impossible situation? You are not alone. But the key word here is “seemingly.” No situation is impossible. You may have thought it was impossible at that time, but think about it now. You’re here, you survived, and you LEARNED from the situation. You are stronger now than you were before.

Does this mean the situation will never come back? Or that bad things will never happen again? Of course not, but you will keep getting better at handling similar situations going forward. At first you may not succeed, but take a step back; why are you in this situation in the first place? Did it result from a mistake, or was it completely out of your control? Either way, worry is a counterproductive emotion; it doesn’t get you anywhere. Let it go. Even if it happened five minutes ago, it’s already in the past. Don’t look back; always keep pushing forward.

A fantastic illustration of this point is another lovely poem I have for you.

Autobiography in Five Chapters by Portia Nelson

Chapter One of My Life

I walk down the street.

There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.

I fall in.

I am lost . . . I am helpless.

It isn’t my fault.

It takes forever to find a way out.

Chapter Two

I walk down the same street.

There’s a deep hole in the sidewalk.

I pretend I don’t see it.

I fall in again.

I can’t believe I’m in the same place.

But it isn’t my fault.

It still takes a long time to get out.

Chapter Three

I walk down the same street.

There’s a deep hole in the sidewalk.

I see it there.

I still fall in . . . It’s a habit.

But my eyes are open . . . I know where I am.

It is my fault.

I get out immediately.

Chapter Four

I walk down the same street.

There’s a deep hole in the sidewalk.

I walk around it.

Chapter Five

I walk down a different street.
